Finally, by bringing together members of the creative industry of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Boyd’s Station Artist Guild amplifies the voices of visual artists and allows the building of momentum for a variety of projects and ideas.

How do I become a member of Boyd’s Station Artist Guild?

Applicants must apply online to Boyd’s Station Artist Guild to be considered for membership. The Boyd’s Station Artist Guild calls for new members twice a year and invites professional and amateur artists and craftspeople, student artists, and supporters of the arts to apply for consideration of membership to the Boyd’s Station Artist Guild.

Who can be a member?

The Boyd’s Station Artist Guild has three levels of membership:

  • Creative Members - Boyd’s Station Artist Guild creative membership will be considered for anyone who is actively engaged in their craft or art, who is sharing their work with the public in person at events/galleries or online, and who will volunteer to help keep the Boyd’s Station Gallery open to the public and assist with organizing and planning of other Guild events. Creative members may exhibit work in the Guild Showcases, attend general meetings, and have full membership rights to make motions and vote, and creative members are eligible to hold office in the Boyd’s Station Artist Guild.

  • Apprentice Members - Apprentice members include both student artists and novice artists. Students aged 15 and up may apply for membership. The Boyd’s Station Artist Guild relies on members volunteering their time and talents to keep Boyd’s Station Gallery operating. Supporting members can attend general meetings, and vote on Boyd’s Station Artist Guild matters. Students aged 16 and up may apply for membership. Supporting members are not eligible to hold office in the Boyd’s Station Guild.

When can I apply?

The Boyd’s Station Artist Guild call for new membership application portal will be open and active for new members to apply for consideration twice a year. The next call for membership is NOW.

After I apply for membership, what happens next?

Following the submission of the online application, the artist’s work will be reviewed by the Boyd’s Station Artist Guild membership committee. Applicants will then attend an informational meeting on Zoom with the members of Boyd's Station Artist Guild and discuss their work before an invitation to join the guild is formally offered. Applicants will be notified of the results of their submissions no later than 30 days following the meeting with Boyd’s Station Artist Guild members.

How will my work be assessed by the jury?

The jury will evaluate work samples and the online application of each prospective Creative and Apprentice member. Work will be assessed on the basis of artistic expertise (technical skill, control of media, attention to detail), artistic vision (clarity of artistic direction, cohesion of body of work), and artistic voice (creativity, originality).

Should I apply as a Creative member or an Apprentice member?

The Boyd’s Station Artist Guild recognizes that every professional artist starts as a novice and appreciates the process of growth and education. Creative members are generally those who are further in their artistic careers, while Apprentice members, regardless of age, are newer to their medium. To support the development of Apprentice members, the Boyd’s Station Artist Guild offers a mentorship program led by Creative members. Creative member applicants whose work the jury perceives as less advanced in its development may be offered Apprentice membership to support the refinement of their artistic skills.
